This month’s featured property, Old Bakery Cottage, is an idyllic, romantic cottage, perfect for a Cotswolds weekend break, or a longer stay if you can. First recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, Condicote is the perfect sleepy country village, unravaged by the passage of time. The ancient church of St Nicholas overlooks the ‘Pound’, the walled village green, a view that will have remained little changed down the centuries.
Old Bakery Cottage is a romantic Cotswold cottage less than 400m from the green and although several hundred years old itself, has recently been the subject of a comprehensive renovation.
Perhaps surprisingly this idyllic setting is only two miles away from the bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, the heart of the Cotswolds, with its antique shops, pubs and acclaimed restaurants. Formerly the wool capital of the Cotswolds, this beautiful town dates from the 17th century and visually it has remained remarkably unchanged down the centuries.
Accessible from London by car in under two hours, this Cotswold cottage is three miles from the local railway station at Moreton-in-Marsh, where a regular taxi service is available (contact Tony at cotswoldtaxis.com).
